Following many conversations with our junior athletes last year, and the distinct lack of athletics facilities in the North Somerset area we decided we would look into the real possibility of creating a dedicated facility . Most other sports have a base they call 'home', but for some inexplicable reason, not Athletics! This is something that has been 'kicked around' for 15 years at least. We have decided to take on the challenge and make it happen. To ensure success in January this year 2010, we set up a senior and junior facilities committee and after several very positive meetings we spoke about a 'Big Announcement' our vision.
On Friday May 21st we gathered together over 180 athletes and parents at Cadbury House to view a presentation from the Facilities Committee of North Somerset Athletics Club and Academy. The response has given us the confidence to push forward with the vision of a dedicated all year round athletics facility.
A space that was adaptable to allow sportshall, quadkids and track & field training, without having to worry about badminton nets or double bookings. A space where we could hurdle without the worry of the ground underfoot.
The Club/Academy has decided that now is the time. The best possible time to ride the wave of interest of 2012 and create a home for all year round athletics training in North Somerset, but we cannot do it alone.
We have already begun the process of looking at the alternatives for location. Our aim is to build a purpose-built facility.
WE KNOW IT IS NOT GOING TO BE EASY.
WE KNOW ITS GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE.
